about

The sequel to the surprisingly masterful original, and continuation of the epic story....

Infernal Symphony's second proper dungeon synth album, and second in the 'Plaguewielder' series pulls no punches and amplifies everything that made Part I so special, whilst also adding in a myriad of new emotions, motifs, themes and styles. Uncomfy synth at it's finest!

Dripping with palpable emotion, melancholy and honoring the legacy of the first half of this concept double album, 'Plaguewielder - Pt. II' is a gut punch in all the right ways. Astonishingly effective at painting a dark fantasy picture and awakening a disturbing look at life in the Middle Ages, it evokes the grim, grimy feel of Medieval Europe, trapped in the clutches of the Black Death.

This album was an exercise in iteration, patience and digging deep for me personally. During the course of the bloated writing sessions for this album, I essentially wrote and re-wrote over half of the album until I was at last happy with it, with some of these tracks taking over a full year to see the light of day. In particular, the opening track is actually two full tracks written together and combined as one!

Inspired heavily by classical music, musique concrete, 60s psychedelia and more, this album was purposefully designed to make you feel nauseous and sickly whilst listening, just like I was while crafting it! I'm proud of the result and feel it truly encapsulates the sensation of being trapped in this time period whilst simultaneously being part of an epic fantasy journey.

I really laboured over this, as after the release of my dungeon skate albums, I felt extremely directionless for the first time in my career. So, I soldiered on, revived the demos I had written for this release almost a year ago, and eventually resuscitated this cursed series. I have no idea if I'll revisit them, because every time I sit down to write a Plaguewielder album, I inevitably catch some kind of illness. Perhaps the universe is telling me something!

Either way, our heroic protagonist now ventures forth into unseen lands and uncharted territory on his quest to eradicate the mysterious, magical pox and assassinate the demonic plague doctor who infected his home and murdered his family. We last saw him after the climactic battle lead by Hygelac, The King, but after this slim victory in which the King lost his life, our hero parted ways with the group and now ventures forth into the sickly fetid swampland of The Doomed Mangrove...

From there, he will encounter Macbeth-like witches, haunted graveyards, and bump into the grieving brother of his old Warlord as Herebeald charges forth into battle to avenge the death of his sibling. And all the while, Dr. Death plots his next move in a bid for sickly world domination...

This album thematically deals with loss, hopelessness, preservation of tradition and history, the grief of the end of an era and the changing tides of fate, as well as paying tribute to all the innocent lives lost to the annals of time through evil and disease.

Pure old school dungeon synth at its finest mixed with elements of many new-school branches of the genre, you owe it to yourself to give this a try if you enjoy anything related to tabletop rpgs, 90s adventure/rpg video games, fantasy literature or electronic/ambient music of any kind! Or, of course, if you enjoyed Part I and need to experience the continuation of this epic and immersive story!

Thanks, as always, for your support and for joining us on this shared journey.
