SUPRISE AND HAPPY VALENTINE'S! Here I present to you a dungeon synth release conceived of, written and recorded in a single 24-hour span.

As was tradition in the Ancient Greco-Roman Era, and unlike modern, Christian Valentine's Day, 'Lupercalia' was a festival in celebration of rampant sexual debauchery, blood sacrifice, revelry, drunkenness and paying tribute to the Gods of Fertility.

In the spirit of this, I spontaneously decided to challenge myself to create some kind of Valentine's-themed release over a weekend, front-to-back, to keep myself on my toes and to serve as a welcome break from some other ongoing projects. As it turned out, the entire project from songs to title to artwork was complete without the need of Day 2.

'Lupercalia' is a 20 minute dungeon synth album which combines Roman instrumentation such as tuba, flutes and more with aspects of modern comfy synth and psychadelic, neo-classical elements to create an unpredictable, chaotic party-going atmosphere in an uninhibited stream of consciousness which rarely goes where you'd expect.

It was fun to go in different directions to what I'm used to and add some new flavours to my growing dungeon synth repertoire. I normally focus on medieval sounds and modes so it was refreshing because I haven't really dabbled with sounds from other historical eras before.

It's rough around the edges, but a) mistakes left in for authenticity and b) that's the point! In order to fit to my self-imposed deadline, some of these tracks were completed during a sleep-deprived state in order to help make the album what it is.

I felt it was about time that we had a dungeon synth release related to this part of the calendar and hopefully it's something different! Enjoy. And remember, it's not always about cards or chocolates or flowers - sometimes, some good old-fashioned fratricide will do the job just fine!
